Meagan Genell Irish Butler is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with specialized training in Mindfulness, Neuroscience-based interventions, and Trauma-Informed Practices.

Meagan received her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology: Counseling from University of Texas at Austin and her Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies: Intercultural Communication from Pepperdine University. As a lifelong learner, Meagan is currently in a PhD program at Texas State University.

Meagan has held a clinical counseling license since 2014 and has 17 years of professional experience serving and supporting youth. She’s been a middle school teacher, high school counselor, wellness counselor, social emotional learning facilitator, gender and sexuality club sponsor, and community volunteer.

Most recently, she served as a central office counseling leader who supervised 200+ School Counselors and specialized in mental health support. Meagan is active in the LGBTQIA2S+ community and frequently serves on local mental health committees. She has presented at state-wide and national conferences and collaborated on community mental health events with NAMI, Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health, University of Texas Graduate School, and The Thinkery, among others. She loves being a therapist and loves community mental health work as well!

Meagan was honored to be recognized as the district-wide Counselor of the Year for Austin ISD in 2015. She is trained in trauma-informed practices and is a Neurosequential Model of Education Trainer, (Dr. Bruce Perry’s Child Trauma Academy) and Trust-Based Relational Intervention Practitioner (Dr. Karyn Purvis Institute at Texas Christian University). She often utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills (Dr. Marsha Linehan Institute), Talking Circles (indiginous practice), movement, and creative arts expression in her therapy practice. Meagan has received professional learning on unconscious bias and racialized trauma.

Meagan is originally from Austin and her calling is to improve the mental health landscape in her hometown. She is creative, compassionate, and loves authentic connection! Meagan lives in central Austin with her partner Jason and two cats, Moxie and Muffin. She loves traveling, trying new restaurants and making new recipes at home. Meagan also loves spending time with her awesome lady friends, running, exploring nature, and going to art and music events. She has amazing parents, two brothers, and 10 nieces and nephews–she’s really proud of them. Meagan practices mindfulness every day.
