MORE ABOUT KATIE:
Katie is a Graduate Student Intern pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Seminary of the Southwest. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Texas at Austin and began her career as an elementary school teacher before spending several years at home raising her three children. These experiences deepened her understanding of child development, attachment, and the profound impact relationships have on emotional well-being, ultimately leading her to the counseling profession.
Katie is passionate about working with children of all ages and stages, using developmentally appropriate, play-based approaches to help them express emotions, process experiences, and build resilience. She believes play is a child’s natural language and values the unique opportunities it provides for healing, growth, and connection. In addition to working with children, Katie enjoys partnering with parents and caregivers to strengthen family relationships and foster secure, connected bonds. She has a special interest in helping families navigate life transitions, including separation and divorce, adjusting to changing family dynamics, and restoring connection during seasons of stress or disconnection. She also enjoys supporting parents as they better understand their children’s emotional needs and strengthen communication within the family.
Katie’s work is grounded in attachment theory and person-centered counseling. She approaches each child and family with warmth, curiosity, and compassion, believing that healing happens within safe, trusting relationships. Her goal is to create an environment where children feel accepted and understood, while parents feel supported and empowered as they navigate challenges together.
Katie recognizes that reaching out for support often requires courage. She considers it a privilege to walk alongside children and families as they build stronger relationships, develop new ways of coping, and move toward greater connection, confidence, and hope.
Outside the counseling room, Katie can usually be found chasing adventures (and keeping up!) with her three hilarious, whimsical kids, catching up with friends over happy hour, exploring the outdoors, traveling, reading, or finding a new way to stay active. She loves the kind of belly laughs that happen around the dinner table, fresh air that clears the mind, and the everyday moments that remind us connection and joy are often found in the simplest things.
