Center for Child Protection

What Center for Child Protection is about

The Center for Child Protection provides free, trauma-informed services to children and families who have experienced child abuse or witnessed a violent crime. In addition to individual and family therapy, the Center offers experiential programs that give children opportunities to build relationships, explore their strengths, develop healthy coping skills, and experience the joy of simply being a kid.

These programs are designed to complement the Center’s therapeutic services by creating safe, supportive spaces where children can connect with peers, express themselves creatively, learn new skills, and build confidence. Experiential activities can be especially meaningful for children who may have missed out on typical extracurricular experiences because of the impact of trauma or the circumstances surrounding their abuse.

Their services include…

  • Fun Run – A spring experiential program that gives children and families an opportunity to participate in an active, community-centered experience together.

  • Summer Theater – A summer program combining acting, music, dance, creativity, and teamwork. Children work together toward a final performance while developing relationships, self-expression, body awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence.

  • Iron Paws – An experiential program that gives children the opportunity to challenge themselves and build confidence through activities on the Center’s low-element ROPES course.

These experiences are more than extracurricular activities. They are opportunities for children to build healthy relationships, discover their strengths, express themselves, and experience a sense of belonging and accomplishment while continuing their healing journey.

How to Take Action

There are many ways our community can help make healing experiences like these possible for children and families.

  1. Volunteer – Share your time, talents, or skills with the Center and help create meaningful experiences for children and families.

  2. Donate – Your financial support helps make the Center’s free therapeutic and experiential services possible for children and families in Travis County.

  3. Support an Event – Attend, sponsor, or volunteer at one of the Center’s fundraising events throughout the year.

  4. Spread the Word – Help your community learn about child abuse prevention, the Center’s services, and the many ways people can help Protect Austin Kids™.

  5. Partner With the Center – Organizations, schools, businesses, and community groups can connect with the Center through prevention education, community outreach, volunteer opportunities, and other partnerships.

Every child deserves opportunities to feel safe, supported, connected, and hopeful. Together, we can help create those opportunities while supporting children and families on their path toward healing.
