The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi

Appropriate Age Range: 4-8 years

What this book is all about:

A young girl falls off her bike and vows to never ride the bike again, but then she is introduced to the magical yet! The magical yet knows that mistakes happen and that practice is needed to reach our goals. The girl views other kids learning to do various things and realizes that she can continue to try. She eventually learns to ride the bike because she believed in the magic of yet and herself.

Why you might want to read it:

This book is great because it conveys that we all have things we haven’t learned - YET!

4 questions for you to ask your children after reading it:

  1. What is something you can’t do...yet? How does it feel to add that yet?

  2. Did the girl learn how to ride her bike overnight or did it take practice? What is something you had to practice at to learn? How did it feel when you learned how to do it?

  3. If you are having a hard time with something, like the girl did with her bike, what is something encouraging you could tell yourself?

  4. Tell about a time you made a mistake and tried again even though it was hard. How did it turn out? How did it feel?
