Ravi’s Roar by Tom Percival

Appropriate Age Range: 3-8 years

What this book is all about:

Ravi is the youngest in his family and nothing about his day seems to be going well. With each disappointment, he can feel himself becoming angry until finally he turns into a tiger. Then, he lets out a huge ROAR! He starts roaring and growling at everyone until he feels sad and cannot remember why he was angry. After taking a break and apologizing to his family, he returns back into a boy. Every now and then he still has a little growl.

Why you might want to read it:

The illustrations in this book are beautiful and really show Ravi’s anger. Ravi turning into a tiger is a feeling we can all relate to.

4 questions for you to ask your children after reading it:

  1. We have lots of different feelings and being angry is okay, tell me about a time you have felt angry like Ravi?

  2. What do you notice about your body when you feel angry?

  3. Ravi got so angry he roared and growled at people -- sometimes we get so upset we yell at others. What is something we can do to make it better after we yell, scream, or hit someone?

  4. What is something you can do when you feel angry?
