Colleen Maher, LMSW

Colleen Maher is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). Colleen received her Master of Science in Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Colleen currently practices school based therapy in two elementary schools in the Austin area. Before becoming a therapist, Colleen worked with children affected by the child welfare system, most recently as a guardian ad litem advocating for the best interest of those children and families. Colleen is a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Educator trained by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University. Colleen has clinical experience working with children and adolescents, four to 16 years old and has worked with children from birth to 18 years old in previous profession settings. Colleen takes a whole-family, attachment-based, and trauma-informed approach to therapy, acknowledging that the family system is the most salient in a child’s life and can also be the source of the most support and healing.

Colleen is originally from Illinois but moved to Austin for the better weather (no dreary winters and icy roads!) and the outdoor and dog friendly vibes. Colleen has called Austin home for eight years. In that time, she has acquired a partner, two dogs and a cat who do their best to steer clear of any dull moments!
